Dear brothers and sisters,

Happy New Liturgical Year!

We begin liturgical year C. Let us remember that in the Church we have three cycles of the liturgy. Something that characterizes this year is the reading of the Gospel of Saint Luke on most Sundays starting this Sunday. Saint Luke the Evangelist was a physician who accompanied Saint Paul on several of his missionary journeys. It is believed that Saint Luke wrote the gospel that bears his name and the book of the Acts of the Apostles. The Gospel according to Saint Luke has 24 chapters and is considered the gospel of mercy since it is possible to notice an attention towards the poor, the victims of injustice, and the repentant sinners who are welcomed by a merciful God. We also find in his gospel a close relationship with Mary. It is he who tells us about the annunciation, the visitation to Elizabeth, and the presentation of Jesus in the temple. Let us walk, then, during this year with Saint Luke. I invite you to read the Gospel and meditate it in your heart.

Next Friday, December 3, we will start the novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe. Every night we will have the rosary at 6:30 pm and Mass at 7 pm. On Sunday, December 5, the Mass in Spanish will be at 11 am, but there will also be a rosary and Eucharistic adoration in the evening. I invite all to attend the novena to prepare for the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12. In a particular way I want to welcome the priests who will preside over some of the Masses: Fr. Alejandro Marca (Friday, 3), Fr. Andrés Pernett (Saturday, 4) and Father Andrés Beltrán (Monday, 6). Thanks also to all of our parish leaders who are organizing the novena and its liturgical and social activities.

As the season of Advent begins, I remind you that this is a time of waiting and reflection. That is why the parish wants to offer you a resource to help you in your personal prayer. This weekend everyone can take home the Little Blue Book that contains reflections for the season of Advent and Christmas, from November 28 to January 9. I encourage you to follow the instructions in the book, read, reflect, and pray. It is only 6 minutes a day. If you want, you can contribute $ 1 to cover the cost of the books. You will also notice that the season of Advent is a time of sobriety and moderation in the liturgy. The songs, readings, prayers and the church should reflect that atmosphere of expectation, but not sadness. The flowers that adorn the sanctuary should be moderate, so that when the feast day arrives, the interior change of our heart and the exterior beauty of the liturgical celebrations will be noticed. Let us enter the season of Advent with great expectation and inner awareness.

Feliz Año Nuevo Litúrgico!

Comenzamos el año litúrgico C. Recordemos que en la Iglesia tenemos tres ciclos de la liturgia y algo que caracteriza a este año es la lectura del Evangelio de San Lucas en la mayoría de domingos a partir de hoy. San Lucas evangelista fue un médico quien acompañó a San Pablo en varios de sus viajes misioneros. Se cree que San Lucas escribió el evangelio que lleva su nombre y el libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles. El Evangelio según San Lucas tiene 24 capítulos y es considerado el evangelio de la misericordia ya que se puede notar una atención hacia los pobres, las víctimas de injusticia, los pecadores arrepentidos y acogidos por un Dios misericordioso. También encontramos en su evangelio una relación cercana con María. Es él quien nos cuenta acerca de la anunciación, de la visita a Isabel, y de la presentación de Jesús en el templo. Caminemos, entonces, durante este año con San Lucas. Los invito a leer el evangelio y a meditarlo en su corazón.

El próximo viernes 3 de diciembre daremos inicio al novenario de la Virgen de Guadalupe. Cada noche tendremos el rosario a las 6:30 pm y la Misa a las 7 pm. El domingo 5 de diciembre la Misa en español será a las 11 am, pero también habrá rosario y adoración eucarística en la noche. Los invito a todos a asistir a la novena para prepararse a la celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe el 12 de diciembre. De manera particular quiero darle la bienvenida a los sacerdotes que presidirán algunas de las eucaristías: padre Alejandro Marca (viernes 3), padre Andrés Pernett (sábado 4) y padre Andrés Beltrán (lunes 6). Gracias también a todos nuestros líderes parroquiales que están organizando el novenario y sus actividades litúrgicas y sociales.

Al comenzar el tiempo del Adviento, les recuerdo que este es un tiempo de espera y reflexión. Por ello la parroquia quiere ofrecerles un recurso para ayudarlos en su oración personal. En este fin de semana todos pueden llevar El Librito Azul que contiene reflexiones para el tiempo de Adviento y Navidad, desde el 28 de noviembre hasta el 9 de enero. Los animo para que sigan las instrucciones del libro, lean, reflexionen y oren. Son solo 6 minutos diarios. Si ustedes quieren, pueden contribuir $1 para cubrir los gastos de los libros. También notarán que el tiempo del Adviento es un tiempo de sobriedad y moderación en la liturgia. Los cantos, las lecturas, las oraciones y la iglesia deben reflejar ese ambiente de espera, mas no de tristeza. Las flores que adornen el santuario deben ser moderadas, para que cuando llegue el día de fiesta se note el cambio interior de nuestro corazón y exterior en las celebraciones litúrgicas. Adentrémonos en el tiempo del Adviento con gran expectativa y concientización interior.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In his message for the Fifth World Day of the Poor, Pope Francis observes that the COVID-19 crisis, “continues to affect millions of people and, even when it does not bring suffering and death, it is nonetheless a portent of poverty.” Yet, he continues, “poverty is not the result of fate; it is the result of selfishness. It is critical, therefore, to generate development processes in which the abilities of all are valued, so that complementarity of skills and diversity of roles can lead to a common resource of mutual participation.”

For the past 50 years since the inception of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), organizations funded by CCHD lead the call for all of us to stand in solidarity with those who have been marginalized in their communities and to act against injustice. For example, the main purpose of the Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL), whose membership includes parishes, institutions and communities, is to address injustice in the vision of the Gospel. In its promotion of economic justice, CSPL builds and incubates worker-owned cooperatives. One such co-op involves the worker-owners of Living La Fiesta, who shifted during the Coronavirus pandemic from preparing food to making masks for the public.

The Archdiocese of Chicago is proud that CCHD has its roots in the efforts of a Chicago priest (and later Bishop) Michael Dempsey, during the years he served as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on the West Side. By emphasizing self-help, participation and solidarity, CCHD continues the initiatives of Bishop Dempsey as it works to support resilient communities during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

En su mensaje para la Quinta Jornada Mundial de los Pobres, el Papa Francisco observa que la crisis del COVID-19, “continúa afectando a millones de personas y, aun cuando no trae sufrimiento y muerte, es sin embargo un presagio de pobreza”. Sin embargo, continúa, “la pobreza no es el resultado del destino; es el resultado del egoísmo. Es fundamental, por lo tanto, generar procesos de desarrollo en los que se valoren las habilidades de todos, para que la complementariedad de habilidades y la diversidad de roles conduzcan a un recurso común de participación mutua”.

Durante los últimos 50 años desde el inicio de la Campaña Católica para el Desarrollo Humano (CCHD), las organizaciones financiadas por CCHD lideran el llamado para que todos nos solidaricemos con aquellos que han sido marginados en sus comunidades y actuemos contra la injusticia. Por ejemplo, el propósito principal de la Coalición para el Liderazgo Espiritual y Público (CSPL), cuya membresía incluye parroquias, instituciones y comunidades, es abordar la injusticia en la visión del Evangelio. En su promoción de la justicia económica, CSPL construye e incuba cooperativas propiedad de los trabajadores. Una de esas cooperativas involucra a los trabajadores-propietarios de Living La Fiesta, quienes durante la pandemia de Coronavirus pasaron de preparar comida a hacer máscaras para el público.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Each year in October the parishes of the Archdiocese count how many parishioners attend the celebration of the Eucharist. This number is reported to the Archdiocese's headquarters for statistical purposes and as a source of information for planning the processes of evangelization and ministerial leadership.

In 2019, the average number of attendees at Mass in our parish was 457. In 2020 this count was not made due to the pandemic that was greatly affecting the in-person attendance of parishioners at that time. This year this measurement was made, taking into account that there are still many people who are not attending Mass in person. In this year 2021, the average number of people attending Mass at St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Parish is 485, which reflects an increase of 6% in relation to the number of parishioners in 2019.

The increase in the number of Mass attendees in our parish should be a source of joy for all of you who work hard to strengthen the faith of all who join us in prayer before our Lord. It is also a sign of encouragement for all those who constantly seek the Lord, who want more people to draw closer to God and to enjoy the blessings that this brings.

I want to be clear about something: This increase should not give a false hope that our parish is “saved” from a possible closure with the Renew My Church process. The fact that the number of attendees increases does not automatically mean that our parish has overcome the deep challenges it has. According to what this process has taught us, the ideal number of parishioners should be 800, with an annual budget of $750,000. We have 485 Mass attendees and an annual budget of about $350,000. Thus, the Renew My Church process continues and the report of the group of parishes will be sent to the Cardinal for him to make a decision that will be announced on January 28, 2022. The report makes it clear that the group of parishes is inclined towards the unification of St. Christopher and St. Stanislaus into one new parish, but that the parishioners of St. Stanislaus ask for two years to show that we can finance ourselves independently. The Cardinal will ultimately make the decision. No decision has been made.

We then continue working as a parish community, without denying that we are part of the Catholic Church, which goes beyond the borders of our parish territory, inviting everyone to join in prayer with us, but that we must also be willing to work with other parishes and to think about the future of the Church with objectivity and evangelizing zeal.

May God continue to bless all those who gather at St. Stanislaus for the Eucharistic celebration, catechetical formation and spiritual growth in the various parish ministries.

Cada año en octubre las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis cuentan cuántos parroquianos asisten a la celebración de la eucaristía. Este número se reporta a las oficinas centrales de la Arquidiócesis para efectos de estadística y como una fuente de información para la planeación de los procesos de evangelización y liderazgo ministerial.

En 2019, el promedio de asistentes a la Misa en nuestra parroquia fue de 457. En el año 2020 no se realizó este conteo debido a la pandemia que estaba afectando en ese momento en gran medida la asistencia de los parroquianos a las iglesias. Este año sí se hizo esta medición, teniendo en cuenta que aún hay muchas personas que no están asistiendo a Misa de manera presencial. En este año 2021, el promedio de asistentes a la Misa en la parroquia San Estanislao Obispo y Mártir es de 485, lo cual refleja un aumento del 6% en relación con el número de parroquianos en 2019.

El aumento del número de asistentes a la Eucaristía en nuestra parroquia debe ser motivo de alegría para todos ustedes que trabajan fuertemente por fortalecer la fe de todos los que se unen a nosotros en oración ante nuestro Señor. También es un signo de estímulo para todos aquellos que buscan al Señor constantemente, que quieren que más personas se acerquen a Dios y puedan disfrutar de las bendiciones que ello conlleva.

Quiero ser claro en algo: Este aumento no debe dar una falsa esperanza de que nuestra parroquia esté “salvada” de un posible cierre con el proceso de Renueva Mi Iglesia. El aumento de número de asistentes no quiere decir automáticamente que nuestra parroquia esté dejando de lado las dificultades profundas que tiene. De acuerdo a lo que nos ha enseñado este proceso, el número ideal de parroquianos debería ser de 800, con un presupuesto anual de $750,000. Nosotros tenemos 485 asistentes a la Misa y un presupuesto anual de $350,000. De modo que el proceso de Renueva Mi Iglesia continúa y el reporte del grupo de parroquias se enviará al Cardenal para que él tome una decisión que será anunciada el 28 de enero de 2022. En el reporte se deja claro que el grupo de parroquias se inclina por la unión de San Christopher y San Estanislao, pero que los parroquianos de San Estanislao piden dos años para demostrar que podemos financiarnos independientemente. El Cardenal será quien tome la decisión. Nada se ha decidido todavía.

Seguimos trabajando por nuestra comunidad parroquial, sin dejar de lado que somos parte de la Iglesia Católica, que va más allá de las fronteras de nuestra parroquia, invitando a todos a unirse en oración, pero que también debemos estar dispuestos a trabajar con otras parroquias y a pensar en el futuro de la Iglesia con objetividad y celo evangelizador.

Que Dios siga bendiciendo a todos los que se congregan en San Estanislao para la celebración eucarística, la formación catequética y el crecimiento espiritual en los diversos ministerios parroquiales.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Last Sunday we had the Holyween celebration at the 11 am mass. Many children attended Mass in their costumes, as you can see on the cover of this bulletin. Thank you to the children and their parents for taking the time to prepare these costumes that help the community continue to grow as a church, united in faith and love for one another.

Also on Sunday during the 11 am Mass we delivered the certificates to those parishioners who participated in the evangelization classes. I want to thank the prayer group for leading this formation initiative. A special thanks to Mrs. Bertha Herrera, coordinator of the prayer group, to the two teachers who came to teach the topics, and to the members of the group who contributed so that these classes could be taught. Congratulations to the 29 parishioners who received their certificates. I know they will continue to a more advanced level on Thursday nights. Let us continue to promote these formation opportunities that make our individual and community faith stronger.

On Tuesday November 2 at 7 pm we had the Mass for the dead. It was a very beautiful celebration in which many parishioners participated. Thanks to Julio and Claudia Martínez and family for the initiative of the flowers that were offered when the names were mentioned. Thanks also to Maricela Jaime and Aida Díaz for mentioning the more than 600 names that were received in the yellow envelopes. Thanks to Rosa Chávez for the hot chocolate, to Jesús Díaz and those who donated for the bread of the dead. A special thanks also to all the Eucharistic ministers, lectors, altar servers, ushers, sacristans, and the choir for such a beautiful ceremony. I also want to thank Julio and Claudia for leading the construction of the altar for the dead and Valerie, Sally, Mary and Jeanette for preparing the banner and the book with the names of the deceased. Remember that these memorials to our deceased loved ones will be in the church until Thanksgiving weekend.

National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated in our country November 7-13, 2021. Please ask Our Lord for more dedicated, holy priests, deacons, and consecrated men and women. If you know of someone who wants to be a priest, let me know. If you feel a sense of curiosity towards the priestly or religious life, ask me. I will guide you on the next steps to follow.

Finally, I want to remind you that this weekend, like every first Sunday of the month, we will have the collection for maintenance. This time we need your help to pay for the repair costs at the school that the State has requested. Once the work is approved, I will be able to offer you more details. Thank you all for your generosity!

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

El domingo pasado tuvimos la celebración de Holyween en la misa de las 11 am. Muchos niños asistieron a la Misa con sus disfraces, como pueden ver en las fotografías de la portada de este boletín. Gracias a los niños y a sus padres por tomarse el tiempo de preparar estos disfraces que ayudan a la comunidad a seguir creciendo como una iglesia, unidos en la fe y en el amor del uno por el otro.

También el domingo durante la misa de las 11 entregamos los certificados a aquellos parroquianos que participaron en las clases de evangelización. Quiero agradecer al grupo de oración por liderar esta iniciativa de formación. Un agradecimiento especial a la señora Bertha Herrera, coordinadora del grupo de oración, a las dos maestras que vinieron a enseñar los temas, y a los miembros del grupo que contribuyeron para que estas clases pudieran impartirse. Felicitaciones a los 29 parroquianos que recibieron sus certificados. Sé que van a continuar con un nivel más avanzado los jueves en la noche. Sigamos promoviendo estas oportunidades de formación que hacen nuestra fe individual y comunitaria más fuertes.

El martes 2 de noviembre a las 7 pm tuvimos la Misa por los difuntos. Fue una celebración muy bonita en la que muchos parroquianos participaron. Gracias a Julio y Claudia Martínez y familia por la iniciativa de las flores que se ofrecieron cuando los nombres eran mencionados. Gracias también a Maricela Jaime y Aida Díaz por mencionar los más de 600 nombres que fueron recibidos en los sobres. Gracias a Rosa Chávez por el champurrado, a Jesús Díaz y a quienes donaron para el pan de muerto. Un agradecimiento especial también a todos los ministros de eucaristía, lectores, monaguillos, ujieres, sacristanes, y al coro por tan bonita ceremonia. Quiero agradecer también a Julio y Claudia por liderar la construcción del altar de muertos y a Valerie, Sally, Mary y Jeanette por preparar el banner y el libro con los nombres de los difuntos. Recuerden que estos memoriales a nuestros seres queridos difuntos estarán en el templo hasta el fin de semana de acción de gracias.

La Semana Nacional De Concientización sobre las Vocaciones se celebra del 7 al 13 de noviembre. Sigamos pidiendo al Señor para que haya más sacerdotes, diáconos, y hombres y mujeres consagrados al trabajo en la Iglesia. Si conocen de alguien que quiere ser sacerdote, déjenme saber. Si tienen curiosidad sobre la vida sacerdotal o religiosa, por favor pregúntenme. No se queden con la duda. Yo los orientaré en los siguientes pasos a seguir.

Finalmente, quiero recordarles que este fin de semana, como cada primer domingo de mes, tendremos la colecta para el mantenimiento. Esta vez necesitamos de su ayuda para pagar los costos de adecuación en la escuela que ha solicitado el Estado. Una vez aprobados los trabajos podré ofrecerles más detalles. Gracias a todos por su generosidad!
