Reverend Mr. Daniel Dutkiewicz, husband of the late Barbara (Kortge), died in the early morning of Sunday, October 24, 2021, perhaps as we as a community were praying for him during Mass.

We extend our sympathies to his daughter, Cindy (Ken James) Brezich; sons, Timothy Dutkiewicz and David (Brenda) Dutkiewicz; his granddaughters, Brittany Dutkiewicz and Heather (Tom) Monczynski; his greatgrandchildren Sofia and Emilia Monczynski; his sister, Monica; nieces, Julie (Frank) Kenes, Jennifer (Ken) Lindsey; nephews, Frank Dutkiewicz and Mark (Jacque) Dutkiewicz. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Cheryl, his parents, Bernard and Ann Dutkiewicz, and his brother Tom (late Peggy) Dutkiewicz.

As a member of the Church, Daniel faithfully served his family, including his late mother-in-law who lived with them, the people where he worked, until his retirement from South Suburban Hospital, and the people of the Village of Posen, through Civil Defense,
as a scout leader, a paramedic, and through various fire department activities.

Ordained in 1997 as a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Chicago, he also served the parishioners of St. Stanislaus Church in the liturgy, as one of our first lectors, Minister of Care, and as leader of Polish Gorzkie Zale services and Lenten Stations of the Cross. After his ordination and later retirement, his service extended to marriage preparation, baptismal parent preparation, wake services, RCIA candidate needs, and countless other ways of involvement. Truly, his ordination as a deacon was extremely important to him and to his wife Barbara. They served as a team, and they were there over the years for anyone who needed help.

You also undoubtedly know that their daughter, Cheryl, who died in February of this year, and their son, Tim, followed in their parents’ footsteps in serving the Church in Posen. To this day, you will see Tim helping Pro Labore Dei every Saturday in their
ministry to those in need.

We, the parishioners of St. Stanislaus Church, are a grateful people for having had Deacon Dan and his family in our midst. We realize we have been blessed! May God welcome him in glory!

El Diácono Daniel Dutkiewicz, esposo de la difunta Barbara (Kortge), murió en la madrugada del Domingo 24 de Octubre de 2021, tal vez mientras nosotros, como comunidad, oramos por él durante la misa.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Today we are reminded in two ways to be persistent missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. In his message for World Mission Sunday, the Holy Father encourages us, “As Christians, we cannot keep the Lord to ourselves: the Church’s evangelizing mission finds outward fulfilment in the transformation of our world and in the care of creation.” At the same time, with the opening of the Synodal Process around the world, Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium” (Address for the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the institution of the Synod of Bishops, 17 October 2015).

We celebrate World Mission Sunday with the Universal Church on October 24, offering prayer and reflection on our mission to proclaim the gospel to all the nations. The collection taken this day supports over 1,000 mission dioceses through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. These local churches are the poorest in the world and yet they joyfully share the Lord and provide hope amidst struggles in Africa, Asia and remote areas of Latin America and the Pacific Islands. The collection also provides for mission dioceses in the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association.

Also, during this time, The Church of God is convoked in Synod. Today, the Archdiocese of Chicago is celebrating the opening of the process for the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, in October 2023. The theme of this synod is “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission” and so is intimately tied to our celebration of World Mission.

This global pandemic has highlighted the peripheries of our world and the importance of widening our circles to reach out to neighbors both nearby and far away. Let this celebration of World Mission Sunday and the opening of the Synodal Process be an opportunity for pause and prayerful solidarity with our sisters and brothers in faith around the world. May we give thanks for their witness and recommit ourselves to our own call to be missionary disciples. With every wish, I remain.

Estimadas Hermanas y Hermanos en Cristo,

Hoy se nos recuerda ser discípulos misioneros persistentes de Jesucristo de dos maneras. En su mensaje para el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, el Santo Padre nos alienta: “Los cristianos no podemos reservar al Señor para nosotros mismos: la misión evangelizadora de la Iglesia expresa su implicación total y pública en la transformación del mundo y en la custodia de la creación”. Al mismo tiempo, con la apertura del Proceso Sinodal alrededor del mundo, el papa Francisco invita a la Iglesia entera a reflexionar sobre un tema que es decisivo para su vida y misión: “Precisamente el camino de la sinodalidad es el camino que Dios espera de la Iglesia del tercer milenio”. Que esta celebración del Domingo Mundial de las Misiones y la apertura del Proceso Sinodal sea una oportunidad para la pausa y la solidaridad en oración con nuestras hermanas y hermanos de fe alrededor del mundo. Que podamos dar gracias por su testimonio y nos volvamos a comprometer con nuestro propio llamado a ser discípulos misioneros. Con cada deseo, permanezco.

Renew My Church:
A Call to Humility,
Trust, Hope and Charity

As our Grouping Team continues the strenuous task of prayerfully discerning and thoughtfully discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the various scenarios presented a few weeks ago, we would do well to keep a few scriptural passages in mind:

“Then an argument broke out among them about which of them should be regarded as the greatest. He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them and those in authority over them are addressed as ‘Benefactors’; but among you it shall not be so. Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant. For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves. (Luke 22: 23-27)

I encourage all of us to meditate on this passage and its impact for our own lives and, in a special way, our thoughts as to what might be best for the future of our parish and our place in the renewal of the Church for the entire Chicagoland area. We are called to serve one another.

The Renew My Church prayer that we shared at the beginning of this process and that is prayed by our Grouping Team at every meeting offers these intentions:

Pour out the gift of your Holy Spirit upon us,
and so enable us
    to hear you clearly
    to listen to each other attentively
    to imagine our future boldly
    to discern your direction wisely
    to persevere in your holy will courageously
    to stay together in charity
    to surrender our own plans readily
    to embrace the greater good
    to hand on your gifts to future generations.

Let us continue to make these intentions our own as a daily expression of our love for and hope in Jesus Christ, His Church and our entire Archdiocesan faith community.

Renueva Mi Iglesia:
Una llamada a la Humildad,
la Confianza, la Esperanza y la Caridad

Mientras nuestro Equipo de la Agrupación continúa con la extenuante tarea de discernir mediante la oración las fortalezas y debilidades de las distintas opciones presentadas hace unas semanas, haríamos bien en tener presentes algunos pasajes bíblicos:

"Entonces empezaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién de ellos iba a hacer tal cosa. Luego comenzaron a discutir sobre quién de ellos era el más importante. Jesús les dijo: «Los reyes de las naciones las gobiernan como dueños, y los mismos que las oprimen se hacen llamar bienhechores. Pero no será así entre ustedes. Al contrario, el más importante entre ustedes debe portarse como si fuera el último, y el que manda, como si fuera el que sirve. Porque ¿quién es más importante: el que está a la mesa o el que está sirviendo? El que está sentado, por supuesto. Y sin embargo yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve." (Lucas 22: 23-27)

Les invito a todos a meditar sobre este pasaje y su impacto en nuestras propias vidas y, de manera especial, en nuestros pensamientos sobre lo que podría ser mejor para el futuro de nuestra parroquia y nuestro lugar en la renovación de la Iglesia para toda el área de Chicago. Hemos sido llamados a servirnos los unos a los otros.

La oración Renueva mi Iglesia que compartimos al principio de este proceso y que es rezada por nuestro Equipo de la Agrupación en cada reunión ofrece estas intenciones:

Derrama sobre nosotros el don de tu Espíritu Santo,
y de ese modo permítenos:
    Escucharte claramente
    Escucharnos unos a otros con atención
    Imaginar nuestro futuro con audacia
    Discernir tus indicaciones sabiamente
    Perseverar en tu santa voluntad con valor
    Permanecer juntos en la caridad
    Entregar sin reparos nuestros propios planes
    Adoptar el bien común
Transmitir tus dones a las generaciones Futuras.

Sigamos tomando estas intenciones como una expresión diaria de nuestro amor y esperanza en Jesucristo, su Iglesia y toda nuestra comunidad de fe arquidiocesana.

Dear brothers and sisters,

I want to thank all of you who came to the parish townhall last Monday, October 4. Thank you for your comments and suggestions for the Renew My Church process.

All parishioners can provide feedback on the process in the form attached to the bulletin or on our website. As you fill out the form, please consider the scenarios and the current situation of the parish. You can also offer some new scenario that you see viable for the future.

Remember that the two scenarios are:

Scenario 1: St. Stanislaus and St. Christopher unite to form a new parish. St. Stanislaus remains open, but must be able to pay all its expenses. The mass in Spanish will be held in both churches and the mass in English will be decided by the new parish if it is done only at St. Christopher or in the two churches, according to the needs of the parish and availability of priests.

Scenario 2: St. Stanislaus and St. Christopher form a new parish, but all activities will take place at St. Christopher. St. Stanislaus will be closed.

With these options in mind, please answer the following questions:

1. Which scenario best addresses the particular needs of this grouping? Why? (e.g., makes geographic sense, address demographic and cultural needs or considers the socioeconomic factors of the area)

2. Which scenario least addresses the particular needs of this grouping? Why? (e.g., difficulty traveling between sites or neglects the financial needs of the community)

3. What do you consider the biggest potential challenge facing the implementation of these scenarios? (e.g., unrealistic demands on clergy or differences in the parish communities)

Quiero agradecer a todos ustedes quienes vinieron a la junta parroquial el pasado martes 5 de octubre. Gracias por sus comentarios y sugerencias para el proceso de Renueva Mi Iglesia.

Todos los parroquianos pueden ofrecer sus comentarios acerca del proceso en la forma que encuentran adjunta al boletín o en nuestra página web. Al llenar la forma, por favor consideren los escenarios y la situación actual de la parroquia. También pueden ofrecer algún escenario nuevo que ustedes vean viable para el futuro.

Renew My Church
Initial Parish Scenarios
for Discernment

These initial scenarios do not propose any changes to the St. Christopher School nor St. Damian School.

Parish organizational scenario

Parish 1: St. Damian remains in its current structure.

Parish 2: St. Christopher and St. Stanislaus unite as one parish. This could work in a few different ways.

Form of uniting
· New parish and name: St. Christopher and St. Stanislaus could form a new parish with a new name. A new name can be a combination of the parish names or a completely new name. Each church retains its dedicated name regardless of the parish’s name.

· OR: Remain under the patronage of St. Christopher: St. Stanislaus unites to St. Christopher Parish, and the parish remains St. Christopher Parish.

Churches
Scenario 1: Continue to use both churches

· St. Christopher is designated the parish church where the sacramental records are kept.
· St. Stanislaus would remain open for worship.
· At a minimum, the worshipping community at St. Stanislaus would need to be able to maintain both operational costs (e.g., utilities) and capital costs (e.g., roof, boiler repair) for the St. Stanislaus facility. Selling or increasing the lease of the non-church buildings on campus could help reduce the total expenses to cover.
· Spanish Masses could be held at both St. Stanislaus and St. Christopher.
· In this scenario, the unified parish’s leadership would evaluate how best to schedule English Masses to ensure a large enough people are at each English Mass for a vibrant experience.

Scenario 2: Focus at 1 site at St. Christopher

· All Masses would be at St. Christopher. The Mass schedule would be set up to hold Mass in both Spanish and English at St. Christopher.
· St. Stanislaus Church would move to formal closure.
