Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On page 3 of this parish bulletin you can find the annual report for the previous fiscal year, from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. It is very important that the parish keep everyone informed of the financial situation to understand and cooperate together in sustaining this community.

Each spring the parish and the Archdiocese prepare a budget for the following fiscal year. In this year's case, the budget was prepared in May, before I arrived. $ 115,000 is needed just to cover the projected expenses for the year, including the projected income and the school rent. That is why the proceeds of the kermes, $ 24,132, will be used to cover what is missing this year. In addition, the structures that we have in the parish require a lot of maintenance and many problems in the buildings appear out of nowhere or have not been properly maintained, which generates expenses that had not been projected. We have already been cutting in some expenses, putting thermostats to adjust the temperature of the air conditioning and heating in the winter, but still I am sure that the gap has not been able to be closed. We have several months ahead of us to hold events that help us meet the needs of the parish.

In addition to what is missing for this year, the parish has a previous debt of more than a million dollars to the Archdiocese of Chicago. In past years the parish has not been able to pay the monthly fee to the Archdiocese that includes the insurance of the four parish buildings and the employees’ benefits. This is something that all parishes pay for and it helps us keep our parish insured. However, due to the lack of money, that monthly payment has not been paid in most months since 2013, it has been converted into loans at the end of each fiscal year and has generated interest like all debt. In addition there are three loans used in previous years to pay for the regular operations of the parish because the income was not enough. That money belongs to all the parishes of the Archdiocese and they have used it to pay what St. Stanislaus has not been able to, but it is a debt that has been increasing.

This situation should help us think about the future of our parish. I see that there is great encouragement and potential to move forward as a community, but financial constraints, especially debt, create great challenges for the vibrant functioning of this parish. During my homily time this weekend I will explain each line of the annual report. My hope is that everyone is informed and understands how the parish works in the financial area. En la página 3 de este boletín parroquial pueden encontrar el reporte anual del anterior año fiscal, desde el primero de julio de 2020 hasta el 30 de junio del 2021. Es muy importante que la parroquia mantenga a todos informados de cómo están las finanzas para entender y cooperar unidos en el sostenimiento de esta comunidad.

Cada primavera la parroquia y la Arquidiócesis preparan un presupuesto (budget) para el siguiente año fiscal. En el caso de este año, el presupuesto fue preparado en mayo, antes de que yo llegara. Faltan $115,000 solo para cubrir los gastos proyectados del año, incluyendo los ingresos proyectados y la renta de la escuela. Por eso las ganancias de la kermés, $24,132, van a ser usadas para cubrir lo que falta en este año. Las estructuras que tenemos en la parroquia requieren de bastante mantenimiento y muchos problemas en los edificios aparecen de la nada o no se les ha hecho el mantenimiento adecuado en años anteriores, lo cual genera gastos que no se habían proyectado. Ya hemos estado cortando en algunos gastos, poniendo termostatos para graduar la temperatura del aire acondicionado y de la calefacción en el invierno, pero aún así estoy seguro que la brecha no se ha podido cerrar. Nos quedan varios meses por delante para hacer eventos que nos ayuden a cubrir las necesidades de la parroquia.

Además de lo que falta para este año, la parroquia tiene una deuda anterior de más de un millón de dólares con la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. En años pasados la parroquia no ha podido pagar la cuota mensual a la Arquidiócesis que incluye la aseguranza de los cuatro edificios parroquiales y los beneficios a los empleados. Esto es algo que todas las parroquias pagan y nos ayuda a mantener nuestra parroquia asegurada. Sin embargo, debido a la falta de dinero, esa mensualidad no se ha pagado en la mayoría de meses desde el 2013, se ha convertido en préstamos al final de cada año fiscal y ha generado intereses como toda deuda. Además hay tres préstamos usados en años anteriores para pagar las operaciones regulares de la parroquia porque los ingresos no eran suficientes. Ese dinero le pertenece a todas las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis y lo han usado para pagar lo que St. Stanislaus no ha podido, pero es una deuda que ha ido aumentando.

Esta situación debe ayudarnos a pensar en el futuro de nuestra parroquia. Yo veo que hay gran ánimo para avanzar como comunidad, pero las limitaciones financieras, especialmente la deuda, crea grandes retos para el funcionamiento vibrante de esta parroquia. Durante mi tiempo de la homilía este fin de semana explicaré cada línea del reporte anual. Mi deseo es que todos estén informados y comprendan cómo funciona la parroquia en el área financiera. Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Last Saturday we had the Parish Kermes which produced an abundance of generosity. On the one hand, many of our parishioners who are part of the various ministries made up the board of directors. My special thanks to Lorenzo Cervantes, Francisco Ramírez, Liliana Herrera, Claudia Montiel, Nicolás Vicencio, and Lourdes Mendoza. It is also fair to thank all of our parishioners who helped set up the tents, tables, chairs and other necessary elements for our kermes. Thanks to everyone who cooked, sold food, drinks, etc., painted faces, attended the games, cheered on the attendees, sang, danced, cleaned, and so many other functions that took place last Saturday. Without you, this kermes would not have been as successful as it was. Special thanks also to all who came to enjoy our kermes. Your generosity is a sign of the parish unity and the desire to live together as brothers and sisters. Gratitude is what we all have in our hearts for our kermes and I hope that spirit is maintained in our parish.

This weekend the collection for the seminary is held. Remember that we need priests and this is our annual opportunity to contribute with our financial aid to the formation of the future pastors in the Catholic Church. I know that we are constantly praying for vocations and for more young people to hear and heed the Lord's call. We should encourage our children and youth to wonder if perhaps God is calling them to his service through the priesthood. This weekend we will cooperate so that our grain contribution can make possible the financial relief of the expenses of the seminary. Let's be generous! We will have a second collection after communion. You can deposit the envelope previously received for the collection of the seminary or give in cash.

Also this weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday. This day we do a sending mass for our parish catechists. This week the religious education of the year 2021-2022 begins. Through this special blessing, we want to entrust the faith education of our children and youth to the parishioners who have accepted the catechetical ministry. Remember that faith formation is primarily the job of parents. Catechists, leaders and parents united will contribute to forming the future Catholic leaders of tomorrow. Thank you dear catechists!

El sábado pasado tuvimos la Kermés parroquial que produjo una abundancia de generosidad. Por un lado, muchos de nuestros parroquianos que hacen parte de los diversos ministerios conformaron la mesa directiva. Mi agradecimiento especial a Lorenzo Cervantes, Francisco Ramírez, Liliana Herrera, Claudia Montiel, Nicolás Vicencio, y Lourdes Mendoza. También es justo agradecer a todos nuestros parroquianos que ayudaron a poner las carpas, mesas, sillas y otros elementos necesarios para nuestra kermés. Gracias a todos los que cocinaron, vendieron, pintaron caritas, atendieron los juegos, animaron a los asistentes, cantaron, bailaron, limpiaron, y tantas otras funciones que se ocuparon el sábado pasado. Sin ustedes, esta kermés no hubiera tenido el éxito que tuvo. Gracias de manera especial también a todos los que vinieron a disfrutar de nuestra kermés. Su generosidad es muestra de la unidad parroquial y del deseo de convivir juntos como hermanos y hermanas. Gratitud es lo que todos tenemos en el corazón por nuestra kermés y espero que ese espíritu se mantenga en nuestra parroquia.

Este fin de semana se celebra la colecta para el seminario. Recuerden que necesitamos sacerdotes y esta es nuestra oportunidad anual de contribuir con nuestra ayuda financiera a la formación de los futuros pastores en la Iglesia Católica. Yo sé que constantemente estamos orando por las vocaciones y porque más jóvenes escuchen y atiendan la llamada del Señor. Debemos animar a nuestros niños y jóvenes a que se pregunten si tal vez Dios los está llamando a su servicio por medio del sacerdocio. Este fin de semana cooperemos para que nuestro grano de arena pueda hacer posible el alivio financiero de los gastos del seminario. Seamos generosos! Tendremos una segunda colecta después de la comunión. Pueden depositar el sobre previamente recibido para la colecta del seminario o dar en efectivo.

También este fin de semana celebramos el Domingo Catequético. Este día hacemos una misa de envío para nuestros catequistas de la parroquia. Esta semana comienza la educación religiosa del año 2021-2022. Por medio de esta bendición especial, queremos encomendar la educación en la fe de nuestros niños y jóvenes a los parroquianos que han aceptado el ministerio catequético. Recuerden que la formación en la fe es principalmente tarea de los padres. Catequistas, líderes y padres de familia unidos contribuiremos a formar los futuros líderes católicos del mañana. Gracias queridos catequistas!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In the upcoming months, our parish is going to work with St. Damian Parish in Oak Forest and St. Christopher in Midlothian as part of a group to discuss, share, pray, and discern what the best structures and forms of collaboration are to create a sustainable, vibrant and vital Catholic presence in our area.

The Renew My Church Team has invited leaders from each parish to form a Grouping Feedback and Discernment Team (GFDT), made up of the pastor and six people from each parish.

The GFDT began meeting September 1st to discuss and prayerfully discern the ministerial and operational strengths and challenges of the parishes and schools within our particular grouping. Eventually the team will provide feedback and information about our grouping for archdiocesan leadership to review and present recommendations to Cardinal Cupich so he can make final decisions regarding potential changes to school and parish structures.

Along the way, there will be opportunities for everyone in our own parish to learn about the details of those conversations, ask questions, and share their own points of view on the strengths and concerns of any potential changes.

First, the purpose of our GFDT is to draw close to the Lord as a community of believers from across our grouping parishes. We also call upon the Holy Spirit as we prayerfully discern spiritual and structural renewal, or more specifically, models of collaborative parish structures that present the most viable scenarios to effectively carry out the spiritual renewal and mission of the Church in our area.

Second, the discussions the GFDT will have ultimately result in a feedback summary report submitted to the Archdiocese. This feedback will be vital input regarding how our parishes will be structured in the future.

Like you, all those who are part of the team have ideas, concerns, frustrations and hopes about what renewal can look like for our local community in the future. As in the Parable of the Sower, we must be the rich soil where seeds can be sown in order to hear with our ears and understand with our hearts. We must pray that, above all, we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, our words and our actions in this important work.

En los siguientes meses, nuestra parroquia va a trabajar con las parroquias San Damian en Oak Forest y San Christopher en Midlothian como parte de un grupo para discutir, compartir, rezar y discernir cuáles son las mejores estructuras y formas de colaboración para crear una presencia católica sostenible, vibrante y vital.

El equipo de Renueva Mi Iglesia ha invitado a los líderes de cada parroquia a formar un equipo de evaluación y discernimiento de la agrupación (GFDT), compuesto por el párroco y seis personas de cada parroquia.

El GFDT comenzó a reunirse el primero de Septiembre para discutir y discernir en oración las fortalezas y desafíos ministeriales y operativos de las parroquias y escuelas dentro de nuestra agrupación particular. Dear Brothers and Sisters,

God bless you as we begin this month of September!

The Parish Kermes is next Saturday, September 11, from 11 am to 11 pm. We are in the final stretch of preparation. Things are going very well with the board of directors and with all of you who have made donations and are constantly sending to the parish office. We are still in need of beer. I also want to invite you to volunteer on that day. We need several parishioners to help us set up the tents this Friday afternoon and pick up the trash and put everything away on Saturday night after the kermes. Together we are going to welcome so many people who are going to visit us. Let us show the best face of the community of St. Stanislaus to all who come. We are going to have a pleasant time next weekend.

I would like to remind you of the opportunity that all of you have to contribute to the religious education of children and teens. I invite you to be a catechist. Passing on the faith to the next generation is the task of all Christians. If you do not want to be catechists, you can cooperate as catechesis helpers. We need adults and young people who can be in the classrooms to accompany the catechist and the students. Teenagers in high school who want to be helpers will receive credit for social service hours.

I finally want to wish everyone a good rest this holiday weekend. I invite you to be with your families, have a good time, and continue to build that bond that unites you. Pope Francis says that “True rest is to return to the heart of things: stop, be silent, pray. Let's beware, brothers and sisters, from efficiency, let's stop the frantic race that dictates our agendas. We must learn to stop, to turn off the phone, to contemplate nature, to regenerate ourselves in dialogue with God."

Dios los bendiga al iniciar este mes de Septiembre!

La Kermés parroquial es el próximo sábado 11 de septiembre de 11 am a 11 pm. Estamos en la recta final de preparación. Las cosas van muy bien con la mesa directiva y todos ustedes que se han unido con las donaciones que constantemente nos hacen llegar a la oficina parroquial. Aún estamos en necesidad de cerveza. También quiero invitarlos para que hagan parte de los voluntarios en ese día. Necesitamos a varios parroquianos que nos ayuden a poner las carpas este viernes en la tarde y de recoger la basura y guardar todo el sábado en la noche después de la kermés. Entre todos vamos a dar la bienvenida a tantas personas que nos van a visitar. Mostremos el mejor rostro de la comunidad de San Estanislao a cuantos se encuentren con nosotros. Vamos a pasar un rato agradable el fin de semana que viene.

Quisiera recordarles la oportunidad que todos ustedes tienen de aportar a la educación religiosa de niños y jóvenes. Los invito a ser catequistas. Pasar la fe a la siguiente generación es tarea de todos los cristianos. Si por alguna razón no quieren ser catequistas, nos pueden colaborar como ayudantes de la catequesis. Necesitamos adultos y jóvenes que puedan estar en las aulas de clase para acompañar al catequista y a los estudiantes. Los jóvenes en high school que quieran ser ayudantes, recibirán crédito por horas de servicio social.

Finalmente quiero desear a todos un buen descanso en este fin de semana feriado. Los invito a que estén con sus familias, pasen ratos agradables, y sigan construyendo ese vínculo que los une. El Papa Francisco dice que “El descanso verdadero es regresar al corazón de las cosas: detenerse, estar en silencio, rezar. Guardémonos, hermanos y hermanas, del eficientísimo, paremos la carrera frenética que dicta nuestras agendas. Debemos aprender a detenernos, a apagar el teléfono móvil, a contemplar la naturaleza, a regenerarnos en el diálogo con Dios.”
