Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The school year has started. I want to give a special greeting to all the children and teenagers who have returned to their face-to-face or virtual classes. I ask the Lord to grant you wisdom, prudence and joy in this new year. Learn a lot, enjoy yourself, create good social relationships with your peers and continue to plant those intellectual foundations that will help you in the future.

A special greeting also to parents who have the responsibility of encouraging their children on the academic path. May God give you the strength you need every day to get up to work and give your children the best opportunities. Know that the Church loves you, encourages you, and prays for you every day. We know that the daily struggle is not easy, but we are here to offer you this word of encouragement and a community that supports you.

Next Sunday we are going to restore a very beautiful tradition here at St. Stanislaus. Every first Sunday of the month, families and students in Religious Education bring non-perishable foods to offer during the Eucharist. I want to invite all families attending Mass to bring food, not just those in Religious Education. May the first Sunday of each month be an opportunity for all of us to do our part to contribute to those most in need. Bring some food that can help others. Pro Labore Dei will distribute them to the neediest people in our area. There is always someone who needs more than us, no matter how little we have. Let's be generous. Our heavenly Father will reward everything we do for our brothers and sisters who lack the means to be able to provide the necessary food at the table in their home.

To all of you, happy Sunday! Invite your neighbors and friends who may not have returned to Mass. Let them know that the Lord and his community await you with open arms.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

El año escolar ha comenzado. Quiero dar un saludo especial a todos los niños, niñas y adolescentes que han regresado a sus clases presenciales o virtuales. Pido al Señor que les conceda sabiduría, prudencia y alegría en este nuevo año. Aprendan mucho, disfruten, creen buenas relaciones sociales con sus compañeros y sigan sembrando esas bases intelectuales que les ayudarán en el futuro.

Un saludo especial también a los padres de familia que tienen la responsabilidad de animar a sus hijos en el camino académico. Que Dios les dé la fuerza que necesitan cada día para levantarse a trabajar y a brindarle a sus hijos las mejores oportunidades. Sepan que la Iglesia los ama, los anima, y ruega por ustedes cada día. Sabemos que la lucha diaria no es fácil, pero aquí estamos para ofrecerles esta palabra de aliento y una comunidad que los apoya.

El próximo Domingo vamos a restaurar una tradición muy bonita aquí en San Estanislao. Cada primer Domingo de mes, las familias y los estudiantes en la Educación Religiosa, traen alimentos no perecederos para ofrecer durante la Eucaristía. Quiero invitar a todas las familias asistentes a la misa para que traigan alimentos, no solo quienes están en la Educación Religiosa. Que el primer Domingo de cada mes sea oportunidad en la que todos nos volquemos a contribuir a los más necesitados. Traigan algo de comida, alimentos que puedan ayudar a los demás. Nuestra misión Pro Labore Dei los distribuirá a las personas más necesitadas de nuestra área. Siempre hay alguien que necesita más que nosotros, por poco que tengamos. Seamos generosos. Nuestro Padre celestial recompensará todo aquello que hagamos por nuestros hermanos y hermanas que padecen el sufrimiento de no poder proveer el alimento necesario en la mesa de su hogar.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Saturday, September 11 we will have the Parish Kermes from 11 am to 11 pm. I want to thank everyone who is already getting together for various activities and responsibilities that are needed for that day.

On Sunday, August 8, the board of directors that will organize the kermes were elected. President: Lorenzo Cervantes; Vice President: Francisco Ramírez; Secretary: Liliana Herrera; Undersecretary: Claudia Montiel; Treasurer: Nicolás Vicencio; Vice Treasurer: Lourdes Mendoza; Advisor: Graciela Romo; P. Robinson Ortiz.

Thank you very much to everyone who serves on the board of directors. I encourage you to continue to grow in leadership and initiative in preparation for our kermes.

I want to invite all the parishioners to contribute generously in everything that is needed for the kermes. Here are some of the items we are requesting: beer, tequila, plastic utensils such as plates, cups, spoons, forks; money to buy meat for tacos, canned sodas, lemons, cheese, tortillas, onion, cilantro, napkins, corn.

I invite you to share these opportunities for participation with your family, friends and acquaintances. I encourage all those who have businesses to contribute to the acquisition of the products that are needed. The parish really needs your generosity at this event.

The kermés will not only be an opportunity to help the parish financially, but above all, it is an opportunity to gather all together, spend a pleasant time as a community, and rediscover those ties that may have been interrupted due to the pandemic that the world has suffered in recent months.

For more information please speak with one of the board members or call the parish office. Any contribution, be it little or a lot, makes a difference in preparation for the kermes. God bless you generously.

El Sábado 11 de Septiembre tendremos la Kermés Parroquial de 11 am a 11 pm. Quiero agradecer a todos los que ya se están vinculando a través de las distintas actividades y responsabilidades que se necesitan para ese día.

El Domingo 8 de Agosto se eligió la mesa directiva que va a organizar la kermés. Muchas gracias a todos los que sirven en la mesa directiva. Los animo a que sigan creciendo en liderazgo e iniciativa en preparación para nuestra kermés.

Quiero invitar a todos los parroquianos para que aporten generosamente en todo lo que se necesita para la kermés. Aquí están algunos de los elementos que estamos solicitando: cerveza, tequila, utensilios plásticos como platos, vasos, cucharas, tenedores; dinero para comprar carne para tacos, refrescos de lata, limones, queso, tortillas, cebolla, cilantro, servilletas, elotes.

Los invito a que comuniquen estas oportunidades de participación a sus familiares, amigos y conocidos. Animo a todos aquellos que tienen negocios a aportar para la adquisición de los productos que se necesitan. La parroquia realmente necesita de su generosidad en este evento.

La kermés no solo será una oportunidad para ayudar a la parroquia financieramente, sino sobre todo, es una oportunidad para congregarnos todos juntos, pasar un tiempo agradable como comunidad, y redescubrir esos lazos que tal vez se han interrumpido debido a la pandemia que el mundo ha sufrido en los últimos meses.

Para mayor información por favor hablen con alguno de los miembros de la mesa directiva o llamen a la oficina parroquial. Toda atribución, sea poco o mucho, hace la diferencia en preparación para la kermés. Dios los bendiga generosamente.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we are celebrating that Mary is assumed into heaven: small and humble, she is the first to receive the highest glory. She, a human creature, one of us, attains eternity in soul and body. And there she awaits us as a mother waits for her children to come home. Indeed the People of God invoke her as the Gate of Heaven. We are on a journey, pilgrims towards the home that is up there. Today we look to Mary and we see the finish line. We see that a creature was assumed into the Glory of the Risen Jesus Christ, and that creature could not have been but her, the Mother of the Saviour. We see that Mary, the new Eve, is in heaven, together with Christ, the New Adam; she is also there, and this gives us comfort and hope on our pilgrimage here below.

The feast of the Assumption of Mary is a call to each of us, especially those who are afflicted by doubt and sadness, and live with their gaze turned down, unable to raise their glance. Let us look up. Heaven is open. It does not inculcate fear. It is no longer distant because on the threshold of Heaven, a mother, our mother, is awaiting us. She loves us, she smiles at us and she thoughtfully assists us. Like every mother she wants the best for her children and she says to us: “You are precious in God’s eyes; you were not made for the small satisfactions of the world, but rather for the great joy of heaven”. Yes because God is joy, not boredom. God is joy. Let us allow Our Lady to take us by the hand. Each time that we hold the Rosary in our hands and pray to her, we are taking a step forward, towards the great destination of life.

Let us allow ourselves to be attracted by true beauty. Let us not be befuddled by the trivialities of life, but rather let us choose the greatness of Heaven. May the Holy Virgin, Gate of Heaven, help us daily to trustfully and joyfully look to where our true home is, where she is awaiting us like a mother.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

Hoy celebramos que María es asunta al cielo: pequeña y humilde, es la primera en recibir la gloria más alta. Ella, que es una criatura humana, una de nosotros, llega a la eternidad en cuerpo y alma. Y allí nos espera, como una madre espera que sus hijos vuelvan a casa. En efecto, el pueblo de Dios la invoca como "puerta del cielo". Nosotros estamos en camino, peregrinos a la casa de allá arriba. Hoy miramos a María y vemos la meta. Vemos que una criatura ha sido asunta a la gloria de Jesucristo resucitado, y esa criatura sólo podía ser ella, la Madre del Redentor. Vemos que en el paraíso, junto con Cristo, el nuevo Adán, está también ella, María, la nueva Eva, y esto nos da consuelo y esperanza en nuestra peregrinación aquí abajo.

La fiesta de la Asunción de María es una llamada para todos nosotros, especialmente para los que están afligidos por las dudas y la tristeza, y miran hacia abajo, no pueden levantar la mirada. Miremos hacia arriba, el cielo está abierto; no infunde miedo, ya no está distante, porque en el umbral del cielo hay una madre que nos espera y es nuestra madre. Nos ama, nos sonríe y nos socorre con delicadeza. Como toda madre, quiere lo mejor para sus hijos y nos dice: “Sois preciosos a los ojos de Dios; no estáis hechos para las pequeñas satisfacciones del mundo, sino para las grandes alegrías del cielo”. Sí, porque Dios es alegría, no aburrimiento. Dios es alegría. Dejémonos llevar por la mano de la Virgen. Cada vez que tomamos el Rosario en nuestras manos y le rezamos, damos un paso adelante hacia la gran meta de la vida.

Dejémonos atraer por la verdadera belleza, y no absorber por las pequeñeces de la vida, escojamos, en cambio, la grandeza del cielo. ¡Qué la Santísima Virgen, Puerta al Cielo, nos ayude a mirar con confianza y alegría cada día al lugar donde está nuestro verdadero hogar, donde está Ella, que como madre nos espera!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The pastoral groups in our parish give life to the entire community and are a clear example of the experience of faith. I want to thank each of you who are part of the liturgical support groups. Many thanks to the readers, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, ushers, members of the choir, singers, altar servers, and to all who make our Sunday and daily celebration possible.

Pope Francis recalled that “the parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing God’s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration”, and affirmed that it is “a community of communities.”

Let us continue to serve generously in our parish community, each with the gifts and talents that the Lord has entrusted to him to administer. Let us always be willing to be generous in the mission of bringing the word of Christ to all others. Sometimes we must carry that message through words, at other times we can make Jesus present with silence, and at other times we have to transmit his Word with our own example of life.

Today I would like to give a special thank you to all of you for your generous contribution to the second collection last weekend. As I informed you on July 25, some parents of the altar servers suggested that we purchase new vestments for the altar service. The altar boys' albs are very old and some can no longer be used. I noticed great enthusiasm on your part to get these new albs, so much so that two parishioners have decided to sew the new albs and another family from our parish donated the entire money to get the fabric.

As we already have the resources for the albs, we wanted to suggest last weekend that the second collection already announced be made to pay for another project in the parish office. Our phone system was not adequate. There was no transfer to extensions, connection to the priest, or an emergency line. On July 19, a technician came to solve our problems with the telephone and today we have a better service for all our parishioners and visitors. The collection goal was $720 but you exceeded that goal and raised $1,274.

Thank you for your love for the parish. Please let us know how we can better serve you. May God continue to bless you.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

Los grupos pastorales en nuestra parroquia le dan vida a toda la comunidad y son una muestra clara de la vivencia de la fe. Quiero agradecer a cada uno de ustedes quienes hacen parte de los grupos de apoyo litúrgico. Muchas gracias a los lectores, ministros extraordinarios de la Eucaristía, ujieres, miembros del coro, cantores, monaguillos, y a todos quienes hacen posible nuestra celebración dominical y diaria.

El Papa Francisco nos recuerda que «la parroquia es presencia eclesial en el territorio, ámbito de la escucha de la Palabra, del crecimiento de la vida cristiana, del diálogo, del anuncio, de la caridad generosa, de la adoración y de la celebración», y afirma que ella «es comunidad de comunidades».

Sigamos sirviendo con generosidad en nuestra comunidad parroquial, cada quien con los dones y talentos que el Señor le ha confiado administrar. Siempre estemos dispuestos a ser generosos en la misión de llevar la palabra de Cristo a todos los demás. A veces debemos llevar ese mensaje a través de palabras, en otros momentos podemos hacer presente a Jesús con el silencio, y en otras ocasiones nos toca transmitir su Palabra con nuestro propio ejemplo de vida.

Hoy quisiera agradecer de manera especial a todos ustedes por su generosa contribución en la segunda colecta del fin de semana anterior. Como les informé el 25 de Julio, algunos padres de familia de los monaguillos sugirieron que adquiriéramos nuevas vestiduras para el servicio en el altar. Las albas de los monaguillos están muy viejas y algunas ya no se pueden usar. Noté gran entusiasmo de parte de ustedes para conseguir estas nuevas albas, tanto que dos parroquianas han decidido coser las nuevas albas y otra familia de nuestra parroquia donó el dinero completo para conseguir la tela.

Al ya tener los recursos para las albas, quisimos sugerir el fin de semana pasado que la segunda colecta ya anunciada se realizara para pagar otro proyecto en la oficina parroquial. Nuestro sistema de teléfonos no era adecuado. No había transferencia a las extensiones, conexión con el sacerdote, o una línea de emergencia. El pasado 19 de Julio vino un técnico a solucionar nuestros problemas con el teléfono y hoy tenemos un mejor servicio para todo nuestros parroquianos y visitantes. El objetivo de la colecta era $720 pero ustedes excedieron ese objetivo y se recaudaron $1,274.

Gracias por su amor a la parroquia. Por favor déjennos saber cómo podemos servirlos mejor. Que Dios los siga bendiciendo.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The month of August begins and the immediate preparation for the school year. I want to take this space to invite you to contribute to religious education, whether as a catechist, parents, students, or parishioners who help with your prayer.

I invite you to be catechists. Pope Francis has declared that being a catechist is not a volunteer service, but a recognized ministry in the Catholic Church. This is what he wrote in an Apostolic Letter entitled Antiquum Ministerium (Ancient Ministry), published on May 11, 2021.

“Catechists are called first to be expert in the pastoral service of transmitting the faith as it develops through its different stages from the initial proclamation of the kerygma to the instruction that presents our new life in Christ and prepares for the sacraments of Christian initiation, and then to the ongoing formation that can allow each person to give an accounting of the hope within them (1P 3:15). At the same time, every catechist must be a witness to the faith, a teacher and mystagogue, a companion and pedagogue, who teaches for the Church. Only through prayer, study, and direct participation in the life of the community can they grow in this identity and the integrity and responsibility that it entails.”

Our children and youth need the men and women of our community to continue teaching the faith. Through the centuries, this passing of faith to others has fulfilled the mission that Christ left to his apostles before his Ascension, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creatures" (MT 16:15).

So I encourage you to consider taking the classes to prepare to be a catechist. Please speak with our director of religious education, Juan Carlos Roca, 708-597-4910. He will be able to inform you in greater detail about this ministry. Do not be afraid. We will accompany you on the way and personally I will be available for everything you may need.

Finally, I invite all families to enroll their children in religious education. This month is the time to let us know so we can order enough books for your children to have the best material in their hands to help them understand and love our faith.

Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

Comienza el mes de Agosto y la preparación inmediata al año escolar. Quiero tomar este espacio para invitarlos a contribuir a la educación religiosa, ya sea como catequista, padres de familia, estudiantes, o parroquianos que ayudan con su oración.

Los invito a ser catequistas. El Papa Francisco ha declarado que el ser catequista no es un voluntariado, sino un ministerio reconocido en la Iglesia Católica. Así lo escribió él en una Carta Apostólica titulada Antiquum Ministerium (Ministerio Antiguo), publicado el 11 de Mayo del 2021.

“El Catequista, en efecto, está llamado en primer lugar a manifestar su competencia en el servicio pastoral de la transmisión de la fe, que se desarrolla en sus diversas etapas: desde el primer anuncio que introduce al kerygma, pasando por la enseñanza que hace tomar conciencia de la nueva vida en Cristo y prepara en particular a los sacramentos de la iniciación cristiana, hasta la formación permanente que permite a cada bautizado estar siempre dispuesto a «dar respuesta a todo el que les pida dar razón de su esperanza» (1 P 3,15). El Catequista es al mismo tiempo testigo de la fe, maestro y mistagogo, acompañante y pedagogo que enseña en nombre de la Iglesia. Una identidad que sólo puede desarrollarse con coherencia y responsabilidad mediante la oración, el estudio y la participación directa en la vida de la comunidad.”

Nuestros niños y jóvenes necesitan que hombres y mujeres de nuestra comunidad continúen enseñando la fe. A través de los siglos, ese pasar la fe a los demás ha cumplido la misión que Cristo dejó a sus apóstoles antes de su Ascensión, “Vayan por todo el mundo y prediquen el evangelio a toda creatura” (MT 16:15).

Los animo entonces para que consideren tomar las clases de preparación para ser un catequista. Por favor hablen con nuestro director de educación religiosa, Juan Carlos Roca, 708-597-4910. Él podrá informarlos en mayor detalle acerca de este ministerio. No tengan miedo. Los acompañaremos en el camino y personalmente estaré pendiente de todo lo que puedan necesitar.

Finalmente, invito a las familias para que inscriban a sus hijos en la educación religiosa. Este mes es el tiempo adecuado para que nos dejen saber. De esa manera podremos ordenar los libros suficientes para que sus hijos tengan el mejor material en sus manos que les ayude a comprender y amar nuestra fe.
