Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We begin the fourth week of Lent. It is an appropriate time to review our Lenten resolutions. How are we doing? The celebration of Easter is approaching and these weeks represent a great opportunity for us to prepare ourselves for the renewal of our identity as sons and daughters of God through baptism.

Lent is not a sad, dull time, of sacrifices, without any meaning. During this season the liturgy sounds a little different, the church is not so decorated with festive elements, the music slows down a bit, all this to help us enter into reflection and encounter with God. It is a propitious time that the Church offers us to reflect on how we are living our baptism, that is, our identity as Christians, and to see what we need to strengthen that relationship with God, with our brothers and sisters, and with ourselves.

I hope we are using this Lenten season well. Don't forget that we began the season receiving ashes on our forehead as a sign of conversion and availability to get closer to God. Have you been doing that? Do you feel that you are getting closer to God? It is possible that some already got distracted and went back to the usual way. Not everything is lost! As we heard last week in the liturgy, God gives us many opportunities. As Pope Francis said on March 20: “God is Father and looks after you as the best of fathers: He does not look at the achievements you have not yet reached, but the fruits you can bear. He does not keep track of your shortcomings but encourages your potential. He does not dwell on the past, but bets on your future.”

There is still time to retake the Lenten journey. Do not leave aside The Little Black Book that you received at the beginning of Lent. Read the reflections. Read the daily readings for Mass. Spend some time in silence each day. Listen to some sacred music or songs that lift your spirit towards God. Spend more quality time with your families. Come to Mass together every Sunday. Help someone who needs you. God awaits us all as the good Father that he is. Do not distance yourself from Him. On the contrary, let yourself be loved by God and share his love with others. Take courage. You are not alone. Here we go together walking towards Christ as one community of faith.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

Comenzamos la cuarta semana de Cuaresma. Es un momento adecuado para revisar nuestros compromisos cuaresmales. ¿Cómo vamos? Se acerca la celebración de la Pascua y estas semanas representan una oportunidad grande para que nos preparemos a la renovación de nuestra identidad como hijos e hijas de Dios a través del bautismo.

La Cuaresma no es un tiempo triste, apagado, de sacrificios, sin ningún sentido. Durante esta temporada la liturgia suena un poco diferente, la iglesia no está tan decorada con elementos festivos, la música baja un poco el ritmo, todo eso para ayudarnos a adentrarnos en la reflexión y encuentro con Dios. Es un tiempo propicio que nos ofrece la Iglesia para que reflexionemos cómo estamos viviendo nuestro bautismo, es decir nuestra identidad como cristianos, y ver qué necesitamos para fortalecer esa relación con Dios, con nuestros hermanos y hermanas, y con nosotros mismos.

Ojalá que estemos usando bien este tiempo cuaresmal. No se les olvide que comenzábamos la temporada recibiendo las cenizas en nuestra frente como signo de conversión y de disponibilidad para acercarnos más a Dios. ¿Han estado haciendo eso? ¿Sienten que se están acercando más a Dios? Es posible que algunos ya se distrajeron y volvieron al camino de siempre. ¡No todo está perdido! Como lo escuchábamos la semana pasada en la liturgia, Dios nos da muchas oportunidades. Como dijo el Papa Francisco el 20 de marzo: “Dios es Padre y te mira como el mejor de los papás: no ve los resultados que aún no has alcanzado, sino los frutos que puedes dar; no lleva la cuenta de tus faltas, sino que realza tus posibilidades; no se detiene en tu pasado, sino que apuesta con confianza por tu futuro”.

Todavía hay tiempo de retomar el camino cuaresmal. No dejen de lado El Librito Negro que recibieron al comenzar la Cuaresma. Lean las reflexiones. Lean las lecturas diarias de la Misa. Pasen un tiempo en silencio cada día. Escuchen algo de música sagrada o canciones que les eleven el espíritu hacia el encuentro con Dios. Pasen más tiempo de calidad con sus familias. Vengan a Misa juntos cada domingo. Ayuden a alguien que los necesita. Dios nos espera a todos como buen Padre que es. No se alejen de Él. Al contrario, déjense amar por Dios y compartan su amor con los demás. Ánimo. No están solos. Aquí vamos junto caminando hacia Cristo como una comunidad de fe.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

During this year we have received new families who have decided to celebrate the Sunday Eucharist with us at St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr. Many of those families have found a spiritual home in our community. We thank you for the trust you place in us and the love for God that you have in your hearts and that you wish for others.

I also want to welcome 59 families who have decided to register as parishioners since July 2021. Thank you for making this covenant with us. We all commit to supporting our community, nurturing it with vocations, forming everyone in the faith, serving those most in need, and accompanying each other on this Christian path that we travel as a community of faith.

Welcome! May the Lord continue to bless you and give us all the strength to walk together and bring many more people closer to God.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

Durante este año hemos recibido a nuevas familias que han decidido celebrar la Eucaristía dominical con nosotros en San Estanislao. Muchas de esas familias han encontrado en nuestra comunidad un hogar espiritual. Les agradecemos por la confianza que ponen en nosotros y el amor a Dios que tienen en el corazón y que desean para los demás.

Quiero también dar la bienvenida a 59 familias que han decidido registrarse como parroquianos desde julio de 2021. Gracias por hacer esta alianza con nosotros. Entre todos nos comprometemos a sostener a nuestra comunidad, nutrirla con vocaciones, formar a todos en la fe, servir a los más necesitados y acompañarnos los unos a los otros en este camino cristiano por el que transitamos como una comunidad de fe.

¡Bienvenidos! Que el Señor los siga bendiciendo y nos dé a todos la fortaleza para caminar juntos y acercar a muchas más personas a Dios.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Monday, March 7th, we celebrated the birthday of a very important woman in our parish: Jeanette Dandurand.

Jeanette has been serving our parish for more than 60 years. As Helen Herbst writes in the 125th Parish Album, “Jeanette began subbing for the regular organist and immediately became the music director for the Sodality choir. Soon she played for all Sunday and weekday Masses, as well as coaching our children’s choir. Over the years, Jeanette has organized school plays, Christmas pageants, and assisted with maintaining the worship space, especially for holidays and special events.”

I have also witnessed Jeanette’s love for her parish and the great love that parishioners have for her. Last weekend, parishioners at the Masses prayed for her and sang her Happy Birthday and congratulated her. At the 8 am Mass special cards were delivered to her, cards that were signed by many parishioners who wanted to mark the occasion with a special message to Jeanette.

On Monday, March 7th, parishioners and members of the Spanish choir came to the morning Mass to sing the Mañanitas in honor of Jeanette. They also offered her some flowers, gifts, and a special homemade birthday cake. Jeanette blew the candles and expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the community. Pictures followed.

This was just one of several opportunities we will have to honor and express our profound gratitude to Jeanette for her deep commitment to this Parish community. So many lives and souls have been touched by her leadership and the music that she offers to the Lord. Our weekend and daily Masses would not be the same without Jeanette. Her proficiency in English, Polish, and Spanish has been a great asset for our community and a cultural bridge. One of the many reasons people truly love and respect her.

We want to elevate special prayers of thanksgiving for Jeanette’s life as she celebrates her birthday. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless her and keep her, that the Lord will show his mercy to her and bless her with peace, health, and hope.

Thank you, Jeanette! You know that this Parish community loves you! Happy Birthday! Ad Multos Annos!

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

El lunes 7 de marzo celebramos el cumpleaños de una mujer muy importante en nuestra parroquia: Jeanette Dandurand.

Jeanette ha estado sirviendo a nuestra parroquia por más de 60 años. Como escribe Helen Herbst en el 125º Álbum Parroquial, “Jeanette comenzó a reemplazar al organista regular e inmediatamente se convirtió en la directora musical del coro Sodality. Pronto tocó para todas las misas dominicales y entre semana, además de ser maestra del coro de niños. A lo largo de los años, Jeanette ha organizado obras de teatro escolares, concursos de Navidad y ha ayudado a mantener el espacio litúrgico, especialmente para días festivos y eventos especiales”.

Yo también he sido testigo del amor de Jeanette por su parroquia y el gran amor que los feligreses le tienen. El fin de semana pasado, los feligreses en las Misas oraron por ella y le cantaron Feliz Cumpleaños y la felicitaron. En la Misa de las 8 am se le entregaron tarjetas especiales, tarjetas que fueron firmadas por muchos feligreses que querían marcar la ocasión con un mensaje especial para Jeanette.

El lunes 7 de marzo, feligreses y miembros del coro en español acudieron a la misa de la mañana para cantar las mañanitas en honor a Jeanette. También le ofrecieron algunas flores, regalos y un pastel de cumpleaños hecho en casa. Jeanette sopló las velas y expresó su gratitud y aprecio a la comunidad. Luego nos tomamos algunas fotografías para el recuerdo.

Esta fue solo una de varias oportunidades que tendremos para honrar y expresar nuestra profunda gratitud a Jeanette por su gran compromiso con esta comunidad parroquial. Tantas vidas y almas han sido tocadas por su liderazgo y la música que ella ofrece al Señor. Nuestras Misas diarias y de fin de semana no serían lo mismo sin Jeanette. Su dominio del inglés, polaco y español ha sido una bendición para nuestra comunidad y un puente cultural inigualable. Una de las muchas razones por las que la gente realmente la ama y la respeta.

Queremos elevar oraciones especiales de acción de gracias por la vida de Jeanette al celebrar su cumpleaños. Oramos para que el Señor la siga bendiciendo y guardando, que el Señor le muestre su misericordia y la bendiga con paz, salud y esperanza.

¡Gracias, Jeanette! ¡Sabes que esta comunidad Parroquial te quiere! ¡Feliz cumpleaños! Ad Multos Annos!

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR LENT 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Lent is a favorable time for personal and community renewal, as it leads us to the paschal mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1. Sowing and reaping
All too often in our lives, greed, pride and the desire to possess, accumulate and consume have the upper hand, as we see from the story of the foolish man in the Gospel parable, who thought his life was safe and secure because of the abundant grain and goods he had stored in his barns. Lent invites us to conversion, to a change in mindset, so that life’s truth and beauty may be found not so much in possessing as in giving, not so much in accumulating as in sowing and sharing goodness.

2. “Let us not grow tired of doing good”
Bitter disappointment at shattered dreams, deep concern for the challenges ahead and discouragement at the poverty of our resources, can make us tempted to seek refuge in self-centeredness and indifference to the suffering of others.
Let us not grow tired of praying. Jesus taught us to “pray always without becoming weary.” We need to pray because we need God. Thinking that we need nothing other than ourselves is a dangerous illusion. If the pandemic has heightened the awareness of our own personal and social fragility, may this Lent allow us to experience the consolation provided by faith in God, without whom we cannot stand firm.
Let us not grow tired of uprooting evil from our lives. May the corporal fasting to which Lent calls us fortify our spirit for the battle against sin. Let us not grow tired of asking for forgiveness in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, knowing that God never tires of forgiving.
Let us not grow tired of doing good in active charity towards our neighbors. During this Lent, may we practice almsgiving by giving joyfully. God who “supplies seed to the sower and bread for food” enables each of us not only to have food to eat, but also to be generous in doing good to others.

3. “If we do not give up, we shall reap our harvest in due time”
Each year during Lent we are reminded that “goodness, together with love, justice and solidarity, are not achieved once and for all; they have to be realized each day.” Let us ask God to give us the patient perseverance of the farmer, and to persevere in doing good, one step at a time. If we fall, let us stretch out our hand to the Father, who always lifts us up. If we are lost, if we are misled by the enticements of the evil one, let us not hesitate to return to God, who “is generous in forgiving.”
May the Virgin Mary, who bore the Savior in her womb and “pondered all these things in her heart”, obtain for us the gift of patience. May she accompany us with her maternal presence, so that this season of conversion may bring forth fruits of eternal salvation.

MENSAJE DEL SANTO PADRE FRANCISCO PARA LA CUARESMA 2022

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:
La Cuaresma es un tiempo favorable para la renovación personal y comunitaria que nos conduce hacia la Pascua de Jesucristo muerto y resucitado.

1. Siembra y cosecha
Con demasiada frecuencia prevalecen en nuestra vida la avidez y la soberbia, el deseo de tener, de acumular y de consumir, como muestra la parábola evangélica del hombre necio, que consideraba que su vida era segura y feliz porque había acumulado una gran cosecha en sus graneros. La Cuaresma nos invita a la conversión, a cambiar de mentalidad, para que la verdad y la belleza de nuestra vida no radiquen tanto en el poseer cuanto en el dar, no estén tanto en el acumular cuanto en sembrar el bien y compartir.

2. «No nos cansemos de hacer el bien»
Frente a la amarga desilusión por tantos sueños rotos, frente a la preocupación por los retos que nos conciernen, frente al desaliento por la pobreza de nuestros medios, tenemos la tentación de encerrarnos en el propio egoísmo individualista y refugiarnos en la indiferencia ante el sufrimiento de los demás.
No nos cansemos de orar. Jesús nos ha enseñado que es necesario «orar siempre sin desanimarse». Necesitamos orar porque necesitamos a Dios. Pensar que nos bastamos a nosotros mismos es una ilusión peligrosa. Con la pandemia hemos palpado nuestra fragilidad personal y social. Que la Cuaresma nos permita ahora experimentar el consuelo de la fe en Dios, sin el cual no podemos tener estabilidad.
No nos cansemos de extirpar el mal de nuestra vida. Que el ayuno corporal que la Iglesia nos pide en Cuaresma fortalezca nuestro espíritu para la lucha contra el pecado. No nos cansemos de pedir perdón en el sacramento de la Penitencia y la Reconciliación, sabiendo que Dios nunca se cansa de perdonar.
No nos cansemos de hacer el bien en la caridad activa hacia el prójimo. Durante esta Cuaresma practiquemos la limosna, dando con alegría. Dios, «quien provee semilla al sembrador y pan para comer», nos proporciona a cada uno no sólo lo que necesitamos para subsistir, sino también para que podamos ser generosos en el hacer el bien a los demás.

3. «Si no desfallecemos, a su tiempo cosecharemos»
La Cuaresma nos recuerda cada año que «el bien, como también el amor, la justicia y la solidaridad, no se alcanzan de una vez para siempre; han de ser conquistados cada día». Por tanto, pidamos a Dios la paciente constancia del agricultor para no desistir en hacer el bien, un paso tras otro. Quien caiga tienda la mano al Padre, que siempre nos vuelve a levantar. Quien se encuentre perdido, engañado por las seducciones del maligno, que no tarde en volver a Él, que «es rico en perdón».
Que la Virgen María, en cuyo seno brotó el Salvador y que «conservaba todas estas cosas y las meditaba en su corazón» (Lc 2,19) nos obtenga el don de la paciencia y permanezca a nuestro lado con su presencia maternal, para que este tiempo de conversión dé frutos de salvación eterna.
