RENEW MY CHURCH UPDATE: January 2022

St. Christopher and St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr will unite as a new parish with one pastor and one pastoral team, effective July 1, 2022.

St. Christopher will serve as the parish church and sole location for the united parish’s regular schedule of Masses.
The specific timeline to fully transition Masses to St. Christopher will be determined by parish leadership in the coming months.
The united parish’s Mass schedule will include both English and Spanish Masses.
The local community will discern possibilities for the new permanent name of the united parish, within guidelines provided by the archdiocese, and submit three to five options to Cardinal Cupich. A combined name is a possibility.
Fr. Robinson Ortiz will serve as pastor of the newly united parish. Cardinal Cupich and Bishop Wypych are grateful for the tremendous ministry and leadership of Fr. Paluch at St. Christopher. Fr. Paluch will receive a new assignment effective July 1, 2022.
St. Christopher School will continue as the parish school.
St. Damian will continue in its current structure.

ACTUALIZACIÓN DE RENUEVA MI IGLESIA: Enero 2022

St. Christopher y St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr se unirán como una nueva parroquia con un párroco y un equipo pastoral, a partir del 1º de julio de 2022.

St. Christopher será la iglesia parroquial y el único lugar donde se celebrará el horario regular de misas de la parroquia.
El calendario específico para la transición completa de las misas a St. Christopher será determinado por el liderazgo de la parroquia en los próximos meses.
El horario de misas de la parroquia unida incluirá misas en inglés y en español.
La comunidad local discernirá las posibilidades para el nuevo nombre permanente, dentro de las normas proporcionadas por la arquidiócesis, y presentará de tres a cinco opciones al cardenal Cupich. Un nombre combinado es una posibilidad.
El padre Robinson Ortiz será el párroco de la nueva parroquia unida. El cardenal Cupich y el obispo Wypych están agradecidos por el tremendo ministerio pastoral y liderazgo del padre Paluch en St. Christopher. El padre Paluch recibirá una nueva asignación a partir del 1º de julio de 2022.
La escuela St. Christopher continuará como escuela parroquial.
St. Damián continuará con su estructura actual.

A Message From the Priests in the Renew My Church Parish Grouping

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

After receiving the concerns and recommendations from the parishioners and several commissions in the Archdiocese, Cardinal Cupich has made his decision on the grouping formed by St. Christopher, St. Damian, and St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Parishes.

We recognize this announcement is very difficult to hear and comprehend for many of us. Indeed, change is not always easy. Each of our parish communities are valuable and offer their own distinctive contribution to the life of the Catholic population in our towns and beyond.

With the final decision in place, we will be working together for the good of the Catholic faithful in our area and to make this process of renewal a success for the salvation of the souls and the spiritual wellbeing of our communities.

Be assured of our prayers for you. We are with those who grieve because of the decision yet pray that true joy and hope may reside in all our parishioners who want the spiritual and evangelistic renewal of our parish communities. Do not hesitate to speak with us. The Lord will guide his Church.

Un Mensaje de los Sacerdotes en el Grupo de Parroquias de Renueva Mi Iglesia

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

Después de recibir las inquietudes y recomendaciones de los feligreses y varias comisiones de la Arquidiócesis, el cardenal Cupich ha tomado su decisión sobre la agrupación formada por las parroquias de San Christopher, San Damián y San Estanislao Obispo y Mártir.

Reconocemos que parte de este anuncio es muy difícil de escuchar y comprender para muchos de nosotros. De hecho, cambiar no siempre es fácil. Cada una de nuestras comunidades parroquiales es valiosa y ofrece su propia contribución distintiva a la vida de la población católica en nuestros pueblos y más allá.

Con la decisión final tomada, estaremos trabajando juntos por el bien de los fieles católicos en nuestra área. Cooperaremos para que este proceso de renovación sea un éxito para la salvación de las almas y el bienestar espiritual de nuestras comunidades.

Tengan la seguridad de que seguimos orando por ustedes. Dear brothers and sisters,

On Friday, January 28 at 6:30 pm we will know the final decision of Cardinal Cupich about our parish. I invite you to join this online meeting. You can use this link to register.

How did we get here? The Archdiocese of Chicago has been conducting a process called Renew My Church, launched in 2016. This process contains structural and spiritual changes for parishes. The idea is that the Catholic Church be strengthened through this archdiocesan renewal. Initially, our parish was in a group with St. Donatus and St. Benedict in Blue Island. In March 2021, it was decided that St. Stanislaus would join another group because of train obstacles and some kind of relationship with at least one of the new group's parishes.

In October 2021, six representatives from our parish began dialogues with representatives from St. Damian in Oak Forest and St. Christopher in Midlothian. After 6 meetings and a town hall open to all parishioners, a report with proposals and recommendations was prepared. The proposal that the whole grouping put forward was that St. Stanislaus and St. Christopher would form a new parish. However, St. Stanislaus asked for two years to organize their finances and show that the parish could support itself.

On December 14, 2021, the priests and a representative of each parish, in our case Marion Martino, had a virtual meeting in which they presented and answer questions from the executive committee, formed by the bishops of Vicariate 5 and 6, the vicar general of the Archdiocese, the Cardinal's delegate for the Renew My Church process, the chief of operations and the strategic chief of the Archdiocese. They sent their recommendation to the Cardinal. Finally, the Presbyteral Council, that is, priests representing all the clergy of the Archdiocese, met on January 18 and 19, 2022. They studied, deliberated and voted in each of the groups of parishes that were presented to them.

Now is the time for Cardinal Cupich to make the final decision, after hearing recommendations from the parishes, the executive committee, and the presbyteral council. I invite all of you to join the virtual meeting this Friday, January 28 at 6:30 pm. We will also put the link on our social networks and website on the day of the event.

El próximo viernes 28 de enero a las 6:30 pm conoceremos la decisión final del Cardenal Cupich acerca de nuestra parroquia. Los invito para que se unan de manera virtual a esta reunión. Pueden usar este enlace para registrarse.

¿Cómo llegamos aquí? La Arquidiócesis de Chicago ha venido realizando un proceso llamado Renueva Mi Iglesia, lanzado en el 2016. Este proceso contiene cambios estructurales y espirituales para las parroquias. La idea es que la Iglesia Católica pueda fortalecerse a través de esta renovación arquidiocesana. Inicialmente, nuestra parroquia estaba en un grupo con St. Donatus y St. Benedict en Blue Island. En marzo de 2021, se decidió que St. Stanislaus se uniría a otro grupo por los obstáculos de trenes y algún tipo de relación que se tenía con al menos una de las parroquias del nuevo grupo.

En octubre de 2021, seis representantes de nuestra parroquia comenzaron diálogos con representantes de las parroquias St. Damian en Oak Forest y St. Christopher en Midlothian. Después de 6 reuniones y de una junta abierta a todos los parroquianos, se preparó un informe con propuestas y recomendaciones. La propuesta que todo el grupo presentó fue que St. Stanislaus y St. Christopher formarían una nueva parroquia. Sin embargo, St. Stanislaus pidió dos años para organizar sus finanzas y demostrar que podría sostenerse sola.

El 14 de diciembre de 2021 los sacerdotes y un representante de cada parroquia, en nuestro caso Marion Martino, tuvieron una junta virtual en la que presentaron y resolvieron dudas del comité ejecutivo, formado por los obispos de las Vicarias 5 y 6, el vicario general de la Arquidiócesis, el delegado del Cardenal para el proceso Renueva Mi Iglesia, la jefa de operaciones y el jefe estratégico de la Arquidiócesis. Ellos enviaron su recomendación al Cardenal. Finalmente, el Consejo Presbiteral, es decir, sacerdotes representantes de todo el clero de la Arquidiócesis, se reunieron el 18 y 19 de enero de 2022. Ellos estudiaron, deliberaron y votaron en cada uno de los grupos de parroquias que les presentaron.

Ahora es el momento para que el Cardenal Cupich tome la decisión final, después de escuchar las recomendaciones de las parroquias, el comité ejecutivo y el consejo presbiteral. Los invito a todos para que se conecten a la junta virtual este viernes 28 de enero a las 6:30 pm. El link lo pondremos también en nuestras redes sociales y página de internet el día del evento.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I want to express my gratitude to our parishioners who beautifully decorated our church for the Christmas celebrations. Thanks to Dorothy Baratta, Valerie Dorsey, Sally Swidergal, Darlene Godin, Kate Dorsey, Mary Porter, Karen Klotz, Juanita Goodwin, and Sue Jenkot. Your generosity to the parish community is truly appreciated.

I also want to thank all of you who greeted my mom and dad on their visit a few weeks ago. They had a great time because of you. The company and welcoming they were given is something that I appreciate and keep in my heart.

Finally, I would like to thank the catechists and families of the children and youth in the SPRED program for organizing the 11 am Eucharist last Sunday. Thank you for helping us celebrate with all of them and for allowing the community to show their appreciation for our brothers and sisters with special needs. God bless your generous ministry. I ask all parishioners to support the program this weekend by purchasing the tamales and other products that will be sold for the benefit of that parish ministry.

RENEW MY CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This weekend we celebrate the 11 am Mass with our brothers and sisters, children and youth, along with their families, who belong to the SPRED program in our parish.

What is SPRED?

SPRED or Special Religious Development is a program for persons with intellectual and developmental disablities begun in the Archdiocese of Chicago in the early 1960's. SPRED founder and director was Fr. James McCarthy.

The parish sets up a program for a given age group in accordance with SPRED standards. Each SPRED center has a team made up of volunteers: a chairperson, leader catechist, activity catechist and helper catechists. Each helper catechist becomes a partner in faith for a child or adult with developmental disabilities. SPRED small communities of faith are comprised of up to 14 persons: 8 catechists and 6 friends. This ensures a personal experience for all: A welcoming space, the bonds of friendship, the proclamation of the WORD and inclusion in the sacramental life.

I want to thank the leading catechists and helpers who have been involved in the SPRED program for the past few years. I had the opportunity to share with the children, youth, and their families at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. I witnessed not only the love, company, respect, and dedication that catechists and family members express for children and youth, but also the desire of these children and young people to serve, love, share, learn and relate to each other in friendship.

I encourage these beloved parishioners to continue deepening their love for Christ, his Church, their friends, and family. Stay united in the small communities of faith that the program offers you. Together with all these people who care for and love you dearly, continue to be that proof of love that the Lord offers to all of us who are part of St. Stanislaus Parish.

God continue to bless you, beloved children and young people, the catechists, helpers and family members. Thank you for being here and being a part of our parish. Your presence and service is highly appreciated. And I ask all the parishioners for your prayers and support for these brothers and sisters of ours.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,

Este fin de semana celebramos la eucaristía de las 11 am con nuestros hermanos y hermanas, niños y jóvenes, junto con sus familias, que pertenecen al programa SPRED en nuestra parroquia.

Qué es SPRED?

SPRED o Special Religious Development es un programa para personas con discapacidades intelectuales y del desarrollo que se inició en la Arquidiócesis de Chicago a principios de la década de 1960. El fundador y director de SPRED fue el P. James McCarthy.

La parroquia establece un programa para un grupo de edad determinado de acuerdo con los estándares de SPRED. Cada centro SPRED tiene un equipo compuesto por voluntarios: un presidente, un catequista líder, un catequista de actividades y catequistas ayudantes. Cada catequista asistente se convierte en un socio en la fe de un niño o adulto. Las pequeñas comunidades de fe de SPRED se componen de hasta 14 personas: 8 catequistas y 6 amigos. Esto asegura una experiencia personal para todos: un espacio de acogida, los lazos de amistad, el anuncio de la PALABRA y la inclusión en la vida sacramental.

Quiero agradecer a los catequistas líderes y ayudantes que han estado vinculados en el programa SPRED durante los últimos años. Tuve la oportunidad de compartir con los niños, jóvenes, y sus familias en las cenas de Acción de Gracias y Navidad. Fui testigo del amor, la compañía, el respeto, y la dedicación que los catequistas y familiares expresan por los niños y jóvenes, pero también el deseo de los niños y jóvenes por servir, de amar, compartir, aprender y relacionarse.

A estos parroquianos amados los animo a seguir profundizando en su amor por Cristo, su Iglesia, sus amigos, y familiares. Sigan unidos en las pequeñas comunidades de fe que el programa les ofrece. Junto con todas estas personas que los cuidan y aman entrañablemente, continúen siendo esa prueba de amor que el Señor nos brinda a todos cuantos formamos parte de la parroquia San Estanislao.

Dios los siga bendiciendo a ustedes, niños y jóvenes amados, a los catequistas, ayudantes y familiares. Gracias por estar aquí y ser parte de nuestra parroquia. Su presencia y servicio es altamente apreciado. Y a todos los parroquianos les pido sus oraciones y apoyo para con estos hermanos y hermanas nuestros.
